So, you’re keen to donate devices - that’s amazing!
RAD is on the lookout for laptops (no tablets or phones, sorry!) that are less than a decade old, armed with their trusty chargers.
If your devices fit the criteria, then let us know using the form! If the devices you have are outside this scope, scroll down and check out our suggestions for other donation options.
Before donating, be sure to check out our Terms and Conditions below ⬇️
I want to donate something other than laptops - can RAD help?
At the moment RAD only accepts laptops that are less than ten years old and come with a charger. Luckily, there are many other organisations in New Zealand working to reduce e-waste and decrease the digital divide! We recommend looking into whether any of these options work for your needs.
Many local Councils also offer e-waste facilities.
TechCollect (Nationwide)
RE:MOBILE (Nationwide) - cellphones only
Computer Recycling (Auckland)
Sustainability Trust (Wellington)
EcoCentral (Christchurch)
Cargill Enterprises (Dunedin)
Computer accessories and other equipment
If you have any high-quality and still useable electronic equipment, please give us a shout. Occasionally we're matchmakers in the tech education world, and with our network of schools and communities, those taonga could find a new home in no time.
Treasures we've rehomed include TVs, Mice, Keyboards, VR gear, laptop cases, screens, projectors, etc
Terms and Conditions for Donating a Laptop to Digital Future Aotearoa’s RAD programme

- All donors must disclose the condition of the laptop battery prior to donation.
- This includes identifying any known damage, swelling, overheating issues, or past battery replacements.
- Donors must also provide an accurate declaration of the battery’s watt-hour (Wh) rating where known.
Battery Installation Requirement
- All batteries must be securely clicked into the laptop and in the correct position before donation. Loose or detached batteries will not be accepted.
- This is a safety requirement to reduce the risk of short circuits, physical damage, or hazardous incidents during handling and transit.
Liability During Transit
- Recycle A Device (RAD) accepts no responsibility for any damage, leakage, combustion, or related incidents involving the laptop battery while in transit to our collection points or partners.
- The responsibility for ensuring the laptop is packed safely using strong and rigid packaging and complies with postal or courier regulations (including any lithium battery transport restrictions) lies with the donor.
- If posting or couriering the device, the donor must ensure it is packaged in accordance with the relevant New Zealand and international dangerous goods transport guidelines.
Condition Verification
- RAD reserves the right to refuse or safely dispose of any device that presents a hazard due to battery condition, whether disclosed or discovered during inspection.- If battery damage is found that was not disclosed by the donor, RAD accepts no responsibility for any resulting harm or loss, including harm to staff, volunteers, facilities, or third parties.
Safe Donation Practices
- All laptop batteries must be securely clicked into the device in the correct position and packaged with care to prevent movement or impact during transport.
- RAD strongly encourages in-person drop-offs where possible to ensure safe handling of donated equipment.
- No broken, pieced-together, swollen, or loose lithium batteries are to be included in any donation. These pose a serious safety risk and will not be accepted under any circumstances.
No Implied Warranty or Return
- Donations are final. RAD does not guarantee that any donated device will be refurbished or reused, particularly if the battery presents a safety risk.
- Devices may be recycled if deemed unsafe or unviable to restore.
By donating a laptop, you agree to these terms and confirm that you have provided true and accurate information about the device’s battery condition and have installed it securely into the laptop.
